Earth-Coupling Permitting Assistance

Permitting regulations for water-well based GeoExchange installations can vary greatly in each state. There may be numerous agencies involved, including the Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Environmental Services, Division of Mineral Resources, Department of Transportation, and more depending on the location and specifications of the GeoExchange system being installed.

There is also a difference between the permits required for the drilling discharge process water and the regulations regarding operation of the well(s). The local well contractor you select is responsible for the approval of permits in regards to their activities. However, it is the building owner's sole responsibility to complete, sign, and submit the required permit applications for their GeoExchange well operations.

Regulations that affect which type of permit, with which agency, and how much information needs to be submitted with each permit application, is dependant on many factors, including location and depth of the wells, and daily discharge volume. The resulting path to permit approvals can be a maze of red tape and time delays if the information you provide is incorrect or incomplete, or late in the construction.

The time to plan for and initiate the permitting process is early in the design phase of your project.

Water Energy Design would be happy to assist you, and the building owner(s), with clear direction and assistance in the application process for permitting of water wells. We can help guide you and your constituents to the proper documentation and help to fill out the forms so that the owner has confidence in the information contained when they sign and submit the applications. Planning this activity ahead of time and submitting it promptly when it is required will avert delays and cost impact to your project.

For further information, visit the "Permitting" section of our Library.

The cost of Water Energy's Earth-Coupling Permitting Assistance is dependant on the project particulars and the state in which the permits need to be submitted. However, the value of this service is immeasurable.
